Born in Bamboo, St. Anne, Jamaica

MAY 29TH, 1929

Cyrene Lewis, 94, of Edmonton, died peacefully in her sleep early Saturday morning March 2nd 2024. She was born on May 30th 1929, in Bamboo, St. Ann, Jamaica. 

Her first love was Silvanus (Syl) Ellis with whom she shared two children. She later married Bernard John Lewis, and stayed with him until his death in 2014. Cyrene immigrated to Canada in 1964 and became one of the pillars of the Caribbean community. She worked as a nursing assistant at the Eric Cormack Centre, and retired in 1994.

She was a devout Jehovah’s Witness and spent much of her time doing field service for the organization. She loved to entertain and frequently hosted dinners for her friends and extended family. Cyrene is survived by Daughter Judith, Son Desmond, her Granddaughters’ Cleo, Kiomi, Junotta, Ardith, and her Sister Madge. 

She was preceded in death by her mother and father as well as her brothers, Ronald and Ferdy and her sisters, Hope and Kiss.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 2 pm at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home
